Paul F. "Pink" Dye

Paul may best be remembered as the patriarch of the Dye family of golf course architects. Paul F. is the father of Paul "Pete" Dye Jr.

Sometimes life turns on a dime. For the Dye's, that dime may have been Paul 's car brake-down in 1922. While waiting for repairs, he played golf at a nearby nine-hole golf course. This was his first of many rounds of golf. He returned to Urbana, Ohio hooked on the game. With the help of several investors, he designed and built the first nine holes of the Urbana Country Club. The land for the course was purchased from his wife's, Elizabeth, family. It was on this course that Pink's son Pete learned to play the game and tend the course.

And so began a family tradition of golf course design.
